State Tournaments Put Dent in Final Open Tourney

Considering March and April are usually when State Championship Tournaments are held in most states, having 50 entries at Bowl-ero Lanes in Idaho Falls, Idaho, was pretty good.

The scores were pretty good, too - a great improvement over the scores posted in the September tournament which was also held at Bowl-ero Lanes.

Randy Scharf of Jackson, Wyoming, showed just how good the scores were by posting a 1200, five-game series to lead the pack in the tournament. It took a 1029 score to qualify for the playoffs.

Max Shellabarger of Roy, Utah, however, showed why he likes to come to Bowl-ero Lanes as he went on to win his second consecutive SISBA tournament there.

The STORM 300 Game Pot was raided yet again, as Max Shellabarger and new member Thomas Brown of Jackson, Wyoming, both rolled out 278 games. But they were bested by Larry Wasson of Idaho Falls for the money as he shot a great 279 game for the $50. There will be $120 in the pot for the Grand Finals. See the Bowl-ero tournament results.

We expect a great turnout at the Grand Finals at Snake River Bowl in Burley, Idaho, as there are 95 SISBA members qualified to bowl in the last tournament of the year.

DON'T FORGET: There will be only one squad in the Grand Finals tournament. It will begin at 11 a.m. with the annual meeting beginning at 9 a.m. We encourage all SISBA members to attend to meeting as it is a forum for members to critique the tournament, ask questions and make suggestions. Decisions made at this meeting have a bearing on how the SISBA tournament will be operated in the 2003-2004 season. A tentative schedule of next year's tournaments will also be presented for the member's approval.

A great big thank you to Beth Hill and Jerry Thorpe and their staff for hosting a great tournament.
