Super Scoring in
Final Tournament
The
scores were pretty good at Snake River Bowl in Burley, Idaho - as always. It
took an 1113 to qualify in a field of 13. High for the tournament was charter
member Lynn Larsen of Blackfoot, Idaho with a whopping 1194 which included a 743
series for the first three games. He was followed closely by another Super
Senior and new member Dave Johnson of Fallon, Nevada who had 1190. There were 15
scores of 1100 or better and 24 scores in the 1000s.
The most impressive
comeback of the tournament was by George Denton of Nampa, Idaho who started out
on shaky ground with a 126 game and then, apparently finding his niche, rolled
out games of 290-248-214 and 289 to still have an 1167 - sixth on the qualifying
list. He also pulled another $50 out of the STORM 300 Game Pot - only the second
to collect this season.
Johnson, who had a
744 series as part of his 1190 qualifying also showed his split picking skills
as he converted the Big-4 split of 4-6-7-10. Mike McCarthy of Boise, Idaho had a
713 and Ed Strommen of Anaconda, Montana, shot a 702 series.
Larsen rolled his
way through the playoffs, but it was Max Shellabarger of Roy, Utah who outlasted
everyone. Facing Larsen in the final game, he rolled out a super 230 game to
take the final tournament of the season. See tournament
results.
So ends the
2004-2005 SISBA season. The Grand Finals will be held April 24, 2005 at Tough
Guy Lanes in Pocatello, Idaho. There is only one squad
- at 11:00 a.m. The annual meeting will be held the same day, same
place at 9 a.m. There are several items on the agenda, and if any SISBA member
wishes an item added to the list, we would appreciate having it sent or called
