Not Much For a Final Tournament

The scores were great, but very few showed up to take advantage of the situation as the last tournament of the 2005-2006 SISBA season wrapped up at Spare Time Family Fun Center in Roy, Utah.

It was a rather interesting tournament, too: because there were only 36 entries - eclipsing Pine Bowling Center's near record low of 40 entries, the cut was to eight qualifiers with no top qualifying byes. And there were three scores which qualified for that position. Bob Garrison of Boise, Idaho, Blaine Yoshimura of Kaysville, Utah, and Steve Bordley, of Roy, Utah, all posted top scores of 1176. Final placement was by high game and even that department there was a tie.

Garrison and Yoshimura both had high games of 269, so it went to the second game in which Garrison's 256 was a bit higher than the 247 Yoshimura had posted. Bordley's high game was 256. Low to qualify was a 1065 score.

In the two-game elimination match, Ben Fulton of Ogden, Utah, gave it his all to shoot a 410 series, but Garrison managed to outdo that score by one - rolling a 411 to keep Fulton from advancing. It was Bordley, however, who came out with the lead going into the step-ladder finals.

Ron Hendricks, of Fort Hall, Idaho, made the finals when he ousted Max Shellabarger of Roy, Utah in the two-game match, and was working his way to the top by beating Yoshimura 269-236 and Garrison with a 222 to 206 score, but then ran out of steam as Bordley won the final match 216 to 201. See tournament results.
