Great turnout at the Pine Bowl Tournament Another record was broken for entries at the February tournament held at Pine Bowling Center in Pocatello, Idaho. Undoubtedly, the $500 added money by Bob Ross of the Bowler's Den was a great draw. There was some great bowling, too. It took an 1008 score to qualify and, wouldn't you know it, three took that position which required a one-game roll-off to determine who would take the spot. As it ended up, Orville Edwards of Pocatello, Idaho, rolled out a 248 game to secure the 18th spot on the list. But the other two did not go away empty handed as Darrell Callison of Blackfoot, Idaho, was high series for the super seniors and took home $100, while Bob Bywater was first out of the money and was also paid $100. Randy Scharf of Jackson, Wyoming, qualified first in the first squad (again), and Don Winter, of Kearns, Utah, was high in the second squad with a 1232 score. Don eventually took first in the tournament - his second consecutive win at Pine Bowling Center as he was champ last year, too. The other Super Seniors out of the money were Howard Christensen, Kaysville, Utah, for second high series, Bob Morris, Hailey, Idaho, high game, and Bill Palmer, Jerome, Idaho, second high game. Pine Bowling Center was delighted with the turnout and wanted to show their appreciation by awarding a $75 prize to the bottom entrant. That distinction went to Terry Hughes of Jerome, Idaho. The STORM 300 Game Pot was almost drained again this month, too, as Vic Lorengo of Spring Creek, Nevada, rolled out a super 279 game. He was able to get $50 from the pot and now it will start the March tournament at $125. This was also Vic's first 700 series, too, as he shot a 715. Other 700s included a 770 by Don Winter, and 715 by Randy Scharf. Be sure to check out the tournament results for all the scores.
Welcome to new member Bill Haney of American Falls, Idaho. We have been working diligently with Rich Merrill of Desert Paradise Lanes in Elko, Nevada - site of our late March tournament (March 30-31, 2003). So far he has drummed up $2500 in added money to the prize fund from United Coin, Coca Cola, Rocky Mountain Air, Elko Marine, and Nevada State Bank. Desert Paradise Lanes is also adding a substantial amount to the pot. The Stockman's Hotel and Casino has also promised to pay the first place winner of the tournament an additional $500 if they are staying at the Stockman's Hotel during the tournament. The number to make reservations is 1-800-648-2345. The rates are very good, and we urge you to make your reservations early. Please be sure to mention you are with the SISBA tournament! Also, rumor has it that a car dealership in Elko has promised to award a new car to the first SISBA member to roll a 900 series in their first three games of qualifying at the Desert Paradise Lanes! Because we anticipate a big turnout, there will be no doubles on Saturday, and instead there will be three qualifying squads on Saturday and one on Sunday. The Sunday squad will be at 9 a.m. with the roll-offs following immediately. This is to facilitate those who are driving a long way to get an earlier start. Entry into the Sunday squad will require pre-payment to hold the spot. There will be more information on the Elko tournament following the tournament in Nampa. We would like to thank the staff and management of the Pine Bowling Center. They are great hosts!!! SO!! Who's Winning the Pots?
