Christmas Tournament a success.

SISBA members turned out in great numbers to participate in the SISBA Christmas tournament in Pocatello. There were 93 entries at Tough Guy Lanes in the December tournament.

The great scoring continued as the pot game scores showed. In the first game of the first squad, Charlie Hardin of Meridian, Idaho rolled out a 279 game which nosed out the score of Dwayne Mitani of Pocatello, Idaho who took second place with a 278 game. Rich Crawford of Great Falls, Montana was high on the early squad by posting a great 288 game. But none of them would break the 300 game pot.

That honor went to Vardell Tait who rolled a great 300 game in the first game of the second squad to tap the pot for $100. He nosed out Chuck Reinbold of Jackson, Wyoming whose 290 game was good for the ABC 11 Strikes-in a-Row award. Steve Bordley of Roy, Utah came up in third during that game with a 278 game. Ben Fulton of Ogden, Utah showed his great spare picking abilities as he converted the Big-4 split for the ABC Big-4 Split award.

Other great bowling included Dwayne Mitani with a 713, John Brodersen of Great Falls, Montana 277 and 742, Don Winter of Kearns, Utah with 717, Max Shellabarger of Roy, Utah with 715, Bob Bywater of Rupert, Idaho 718, Glenn Hauptman of Cheektowaga, New York 728, Chuck Reinbold had a 708 with his 290 and Vardell Tait had a 752 with his 300 game.

The Super Seniors were showing their great bowling abilities as Ron Hendricks of Fort Hall, Idaho, Lynn Larsen of Blackfoot, Idaho and Ed Pullman of Boise, Idaho all made the cut. Ron and Ed both made the step-ladder playoffs, also. Ron shot an 1142 to qualify, Ed had 1121 and Lynn had 1116 - some pretty impressive bowling.

Bob Bywater was high for the tournament with a 1221, five game series, but it was Charlie Hardin who was the iron man of the day as he qualified 16th with an 1114. He went on to beat Fred Holbeck of Missoula, Montana in the two-game match play, then Vardell Tait in the one-gamer to be seeded third in the stepladder playoff. He bested John Brodersen, Ron Hendricks, and top seeded Don Winter to win his second championship since joining the SISBA.  See the entire results at the December tournament results.

In the STORM Bowling Ball raffle, the Fear Factor was won by Darrell Callison of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Don Howell of Burley, Idaho won the STORM Football.

Our next tournament is in Idaho Falls, Idaho at Skyline Lanes. There are 12 lanes at Skyline so the tournament will be held over two days. Saturday will have squads at noon and at 4 p.m. Sunday squads will be the regular 9 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. There can only be 36 entries on each squad, so be sure to get your reservation in early to get the squad time of your choice. The tournament is being sponsored by Leo's Place (Leo O'Ryan) - a great place for pizza and burgers - to the tune of $250 so sign up now at the Entry Form.

We would like to welcome new members Dave Proctor and Gary Murdock, both of Pocatello, Idaho. We hope to see you at more tournaments!

A special thanks to Steve Young, Pat Luras and Gary Call of Tough Guy Lanes in Pocatello. All three (especially Gary and Pat) were there to look after the tournament's every need.
