Low Turnout and Low Scores

Well, the weather was nice, the Super Bowl was over with, so where was everyone? There were 40 entries at the Bob Ross Memorial Tournament - the lowest amount of entries since the 1997 when we had 18 entries in Butte, Montana.

There were no really high games posted: Kevin Broderick of Harrisville, Utah was high in that category when he shot a 258 game. He ended up second in the overall standings for the day with a 1044, five-game series. Topping the list was Mike McCarthy of Boise, Idaho, who shot a 1050 series with a high game of 247.

Overall, there were 10 scores over 1000, 17 scores of 900 or better, eight scores of 800 or better, and something that very seldom happens, there were five scores in the 700s.

The scores perked up somewhat in the playoffs with Ed Strommen of Anaconda, Montana, eliminating Kevin Broderick with a score of 459 to 400, Bob Bywater of Rupert, Idaho had a two-game 455, while Don Winter of Kearns, Utah had a 452. And in the one-game match, Don Winter beat out Ed Strommen with a 236 to 214. But the big winner of the day was Ben Fulton of Ogden, Utah who rolled out some great games to take first place. See Tournament Results.

The winner of the STORM Bowling Balls were Darrell Callison of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Vic Lorengo of Spring Creek, Nevada. Mike McCarthy was the winner of the High Rollers entry.

The March tournament will be held at Desert Paradise Lanes in Elko, Nevada, again this year and the Stockman's Hotel and Casino has offered two free nights stay for our event. A drawing was held at the February tournament with Den Fernandez being the lucky winner.

There is $1000 added money to the March tournament from Stockmen's Hotel & Casino, Swire Coca-Cola, Eagle Eye Embroidery, Desert Paradise Lanes, Edward Jones (Sonny Davidson), and Toki Ona Restaurant and Lounge. And, as always, Stockmen's Hotel & Casino will award an added $500 to the winner of the tournament if he/she stayed at the hotel during the tournament.
