Good
Scores in First Idaho Falls Tournament
In spite of the cold temperatures, there were 67 entries at the first
tournament ever held at Skyline Lanes in Idaho Falls. The temperatures
may have been down on the outside, but the scores were hot on the inside.
Skyline Lanes was a
continuation of an experiment we first tried last March in Elko, Nevada: It has
12 lanes, so it was decided to hold the tournament over two days with four
squads as a maximum of 36 entries are allowed on a single squad. The traditional
9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. squads on Sunday were retained while a 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
squad were added on Saturday. There were 24 entries on Saturday with the
remainder participating on Sunday.
Glenn Hauptman came
all the way from Cheektowaga, New York, to post the high score in the tournament
- a five-game series of 1142. He was followed closely by John Bertolina
of Henderson, Nevada who posted an 1116. Low to qualify was 1040.
There were some
great scores, too as Max Shellabarger of Roy, Utah, rolled out a 289 game
during the two-game playoffs. Don Winter of Kearns, Utah, posted a 700
series with 258-224-234-716 as did John Berlolina who shot 217-235-256
for a 708. See January Tournament Results.
The winner of the
three bowling balls given by STORM, Inc. are Den Fernandez of
Taylorsville, Utah, Ron Hendricks of Fort Hall, Idaho, and Brian
Jacobs of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
We would
like to welcome new members George Perez. Ylona Benson and Rich Pottorff,
all of Idaho Falls, Idaho. We hope to
see them at tournaments in the future.
SISBA
thanks Leo O'Ryan of Leo's Place in Idaho Falls for his generous
sponsorship of the Idaho Falls Tournament. Leo is a member of SISBA, but
because of his busy work schedule (he recently opened up a kids fun
center featuring laster tag), he is unable to participate in our
tournaments as often as he would like.
For the tournament at Pine Bowling Center in
Pocatello, Bob Ross of the Bowler's Den has requested that $250
of the $500 he is adding to our prize fund go to the Super Seniors, so
we will be paying six Super Seniors out of qualifying.
The Econolodge is also giving SISBA $250 to the
prize fund. We encourage you all to stay there when you come to
Pocatello to bowl. To make reservations, call 1-800-377-0451 or 208-233-0451.
They also have an email address: elodge@ida.net.
Their address is 835 South 5th Avenue (across from Idaho State
University).

There will also be the
doubles tournament held on Saturday February 7, 2004. There is added money to
this tourney, too, and you don't have to be an SISBA member to participate. Come
on out and have some fun.
We
would like to thank the Rich Pottorff, Ylona Benson and Chad Horne of Skyline
Lanes for being great hosts!!!
SO!! Who's Winning the Pots?
