How Cold Was It???

The below zero temperatures may not have helped the turnout at the first SISBA tournament of the new year - after all, who wants to get out in temperatures below zero to bowl when they can stay snuggy at home?

For the those who did turn out, there were some different names in the cut as well as some familiar names. Shane May and Jay Ankeny, both of Jackson, Wyoming, made the top 14 for the first time. Ron Ruiz and Willie Hainsworth, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho were there also. Shane even dipped into the STORM 300 Game Pot by rolling a 279 game.

Craig Harrington of Harriman, Utah, was top with an 1101 score, and managed to hold off all comers through the two- and one-game matches to stay top seed going into the stepladder finals. There he met Ankeny, who had also survived all the competition. It was a great match and Harrington stayed on top to win with a 218 game to Ankeny's 196.

Thanks to the added money by Leo's Place (SISBA member, Leo O'Ryan) and Vic's Truck and Auto Repair (SISBA Director, Vic Verhoff) we cut to 12 plus two top qualifiers rather than the usual eight with two top qualifiers. That gives more bowlers a chance to compete for the top prize. See Tournament Results.

The winner of the STORM bowling balls are Alan Trahern, an SISBA member from Elko, Nevada, and Willie Hainsworth. Les Comer of Dillon, Montana was the winner of the bowling bag. The High Rollers, which goes to the SISBA member over 50 years of age who is highest in the finals, is Jay Ankeny.

The next SISBA tournament will be the Bob Ross Memorial Tournament at Pine Bowling Center in Pocatello, Idaho. Bob was always a great sponsor until his death. His son, Rod Ross, a Team USA Coach and owner of Bowler's Connection in Mantaca and Pacifica, California, continues to sponsor the tournament in Bob's name. It is February 11th.

Welcome! Welcome!  New member Dennis Frost of Jackson, Wyoming.

Our thanks to Rich Pottorff and Ylona Benson, as well as Dustin Perkins and the rest of the Skyline Lanes staff for putting on a great tournament.
