Another Great Elko Tournament

The weather was great in Elko, Nevada, and the bowlers came from all over to participate in the second to the last tournament of the season. There were 61 entries in the tournament - down some from the 81 who participated last year. Still, the money added to our prize fund from our generous sponsors gave the qualifiers a generous payout.

Sponsored by the Stockmen's Hotel and Casino, Swire Coca-Cola, Eagle Eye Embroidery, Sonny Davidson of Edward Jones, Toki Ona Restaurant and Bar and Desert Paradise Lanes, everyone was trying to get a piece of the prize fund and had the bonus $500 from Stockmen's Hotel and Casino for first place in their plans.

The scores were typically low -  there were no qualifiers over 1000 - Larry Wasson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was the closest with a 980 score. Low to cut in the 16 person qualifier was a 913, however, we had to bring up a Super Senior from both the first and third squads: Maury Hardman of Bend, Oregon with 863, and Terry Sargent of Layton, Utah, who had 889. In the two-game match round, there was only two 2-game scores over 400 - and they bowled against each other: Terry Sargent had a 401, while Troy Wareing of South Jordan, Utah, rolled a 417.

Wareing weathered the field to win all his matches, finishing fifth in the step-ladder finals only to defeat all comers and win his second tournament in-a-row. He also collected the $500 bonus from the Stockmen's Hotel and Casino. See tournament results.

The April tournament will be held at Bowladrome, Ltd., in Twin Falls, Idaho.  Please remember that this tournament is the FIRST weekend of April - April 1, not on the usual second week.

The 2006- 2007 season is winding down (can you believe it?) - there is only one tournament left to qualify for the Grand Finals. Remember, you need four squads to be eligible to bowl in the Grand Finals and you need six squads to be eligible for the year-end prizes (high average, game and series, Bowler of the Year).

Those needing two entries: Jay Aono, John Conway, Boyd Eckert, Orville Edwards, Jeff Foster, Ron Krys, Lynn Larsen, Mike McCarthy, Rudy Moreno, Leo O'Ryan, Brenda Roberts, Terry Sargent, Dave Sase, Randy Scharf, Darrell Shay, Sylvia Wasson, Bruce Watts.

Those needing one entry: Larry Buffington, Gary Burton, Howard Christensen, Mike Dansie, Gene Giesbrecht, Jay Gneiting, Kerry Johnson, Tom Karr, J.R. Lopez, Wayne Manwill, Don McKay, Ron Ruiz, Jamie Wehner.

If your name is not listed, then you have the required four squads, if you have any questions about your eligibility, contact Dean Livingstone. Email: deano@dats.com or 208-237-3133. If you are unable to attend the tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho, you are allowed to buy into a tournament for the standard entry fee of $80. Contact Dean for this option.

Welcome to new members Terry Sargent and Pete Pacheco, both of Layton, Utah; Rudy Moreno of Reno, Nevada, Ron Kryz of Sparks, Nevada;   Hope to see you at future tournaments.

Thank you so much toJ.D. Merrill, Jo Copeland, and the rest of the staff of Desert Paradise Lanes. They always make us feel very welcome.
