Regular tournament season ends

Even thought the last tournament of the season fell on Easter Sunday, there were 62 entries to end the season. Over 90 members of SISBA will qualify for the Grand Finals in Burley, Idaho.

The scoring was great - two five-game series over 1200, 10 series over 1100 and it was a 1097 to qualify for the 14th spot in the qualifying.

Howard Christensen of Kaysville, Utah dipped into the STORM 300 game pot when he started the second game of the second squad with a spare then put 11 strikes in a row together to post a 290 game for the $50. Howard has been doing quite well in the SISBA lately as he won the tournament in Elko, Nevada, then qualified sixth at Bowl-ero Lanes in Idaho Falls. He went on to win his two and one-game matches to be seeded number two in the stepladder payoffs. He put up a good fight against the number one seed Max Shellabarger of Roy, Utah, who ran the strikes for a 246 against Howard's 225. It was Max's second win of the season.

Fred Holbeck of Missoula, Montana was high qualifier in the first squad with a super 1276 five-game series, and Max wasn't far behind with a 1254. Max seems to like Bowl-ero Lanes as this is his second championship in a row at the Idaho Falls bowling center.

There were eight three-game series over 700: Steve Bordley of Roy, Utah was high with a 267-751, followed by Max's 279-743. Fred Holbeck of Missoula, Montana had a 258-740 on his way to being top qualifier in the first squad with a 1276; Orville Edwards of Pocatello, Idaho had 265-716; Ron Hendricks of Fort Hall, Idaho had 257-709; Don Bruch of Missoula, Montana posted a 241-704, while Bob Bywater of Rupert, Idaho also had a 704 series with a 242 high game; and Gene Giesbrecht of Pocatello, Idaho rolled a 266 for a 700 series. See the tournament results.

In the STORM Bowling Ball raffle, the Storm Trauma was won by SISBA Gofer Hank Mitani of Pocatello, Idaho while the football was won by David Valley of Idaho Falls.

Our next tournament is the Grand Finals at Snake River Bowl in Burley, Idaho. Four squads were needed to participate in the Grand Finals which will also include the Non-Cashers Tournament for those who did not exceed the averaged amount of winnings needed to be considered a casher. You will be sent an invitation to bowl in the Grand Finals and the Non-Cashers Tournaments with the monthly newsletter. We anticipate 90+ will qualify for the Grand Finals and we expect everyone to participate. If you CANNOT participate, we would appreciate you letting us know. Call Dean Livingstone at 208-237-3133 or by email: deano178@cableone.net.

We would like to welcome new member Ron Ruiz of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Even though you cannot bowl in the Grand Finals, we hope to see you at all the tournaments next season!

A special thanks to Jerry Thorpe who worked to keep everything running smoothly, Dave Valley at the desk, Dixie Mackay and Wendy Torres in the lounge and Beth Hill who manages it all.
