There were 77 entries in the Missoula, Montana tournament. No doubt the $1500 added money helped. Western Title and Escrow, Overhead Door of Missoula, Century Amusement, Inc., Jared Langley Roofing and Remodeling, Western Flooring, Rodeway Inn Southgate and Westside Lanes made the record high, regular season payoff of $1000 for first place possible. We heartily thank our sponsors and look forward to a continuing this great tradition. The tournament was won by long-time SISBA member Dave John of Pocatello, Idaho. He has been in the hunt in most of the previous tournaments since he joined in 1991 - just after the organization was formed. First place was a long time in coming, but his timing could not have been better for winning! With 77 entries, only four more entries were needed to cut to 18 qualifiers. We decided to take the money earned from the STORM bowling ball raffle to make up the last three places in the prize fund and proceed with 18 qualifiers rather than 14. Doing this, however, caused a tied for 18th place between Willie Hainsworth and Craig Rolph, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho. A one-game roll-off was required with Willie prevailing, 181 to Craig's 178. Willie ended up being nosed out of the two-game match by Dave John 377 to 376. She told Dave that if he was going to beat her out of the running by one pin, he had better win the tournament. And Dave, in typical fashion, complied. Two STORM bowling balls were raffled to help with the prize fund - both balls went to Missoula residents. The STORM bowling ball bag went to Mike Storrier, SISBA member from Pocatello, Idaho. STORM donates these balls for each tournament, another ball will be available at the Burley tournament. Snake River Bowl is the newest bowling center on our tournament schedule and the site of the only 300 game bowled in the 2000-2001 season as well as holding the record 1305 five-game series by Bob Bywater of Rupert, Idaho. SO!! Who's Winning the Pots?
On Saturday, October 6, 2001, SISBA and Westside Lanes held a doubles tournament. We figured if most of the bowlers in the Sunday tournament were going to be driving from most points outside of Montana, they may be interested in participating in a Saturday tournament. The criteria for bowling in the sweeper was that the combined age of the doubles partners could not be less than 105 years of age. The concept was wonderful except for all the 40-somethings looking for the 60-somethings. We needed more of the Super Seniors! Anyway, we were able to put together four squads and 46 doubles teams for a great turnout. The results can be found on the October 2001 tournament results page. High individual series for the tournament was shot by Randy Ypma of Manhattan, Montana, who had 221-242-259 for 722. Allen Nelson, of Boise, Idaho, rolled out the tournament high game of 288. Ted Hess (who walked away with the majority of the tournament prize money, placing in 1st, 2nd, and 6th places), rolled out a great 278, as did Ben Nicols. Both are from Missoula, Montana. |
