Schedule Change Leans on Attendance

Moving the SISBA tournament to a weekend following the regularly scheduled tournament did nothing to enhance the attendance. That, and the fact that most SISBA members have already bowled their Grand Finals qualifying four tournaments made for a lower than average showing.

Bill Funk, of Pocatello, Idaho, tapped the STORM, Inc., 300 Game Pot for $50 by rolling out a 280 game, and hot on his trail was Rich Smith of Roy, Utah, who posted a 279 game. Not to be left out was Con Honstein, Twin Falls, Idaho, who shot a 276 game. The STORM 300 Game Pot currently has $1042 for anyone shooting a 300 game.

Don Winter of Kearns, Utah  led throughout most of the tournament, qualifying with the only score over 1100 - an 1102. He breezed through the matches with the greatest of ease and won the tournament over Rich Smith of Roy, Utah with a score of 209 to 184. It was Smith's first time in the match play for a long time.

We are getting down to the wire on bowling enough tournaments to qualify for the Grand Finals. There are two qualifying tournaments left - Musgrove Family Lanes in Clearfield, Utah, on March 3, 2002, and at the Bowladrome, Ltd., in Twin Falls, Idaho, on April 7, 2002. The Grand Finals are slated for April 28, 2002, at the Tough Guy Lanes in Pocatello, Idaho.

You must have at least four tournament entries to qualify for the Grand Finals. And if you are in contention for any of the year-end prizes, high average, high game, high series, etc. (both senior and super-senior division), you must have at least six entries to qualify.

THOSE NEEDING THREE SQUADS ARE: Don Colbert, Jerry Goodwin, Dan Hagestad, Gil Jaramillo, Dean Koyle, George Lahmann, Mike McCarthy, Jim Ouellette, Ken Peers, Orville Rupe, Dennis Shaw, Kermit Ulstad, Tom Welch, and Mark Ziegler.

THOSE NEEDING TWO SQUADS ARE: Don Bruch, Tom Henry, Con Honstein, Doug Howey, Sylvia Jensen, Jodie McDonald, Mark McDonald, Wes Mills, Brian Runz, Darrell Shay, Garry Thomas, Lowell Thomas, and Ernie Wilson.

THOSE NEEDING ONE SQUAD ARE: Ron Bass, Bill Funk, Mike Fries, Jay Gneiting, Kevin Grupa, Marty Holland, Roy Holloway, John Hoogendoorn, Terry Hughes, Hal Illum and Norm Johnston.

If you do not see your name in this list, then you are most likely eligible for the Grand Finals tournament. If you have any questions, however, do not hesitate to contact one of the tournament directors.

The SISBA would like to thank the management and staff of Pine Bowl Lanes for their great hospitality.

Also a GREAT BIG thanks to Bob Ross of the Bowler's Den for the added money to the tournament. We enjoy the continued sponsorship he brings to the tournament.
