Great Scoring - As Always in Burley SISBA members love to come to Burley because they know there will be a great scoring condition consistently. And this year's journey to Snake River Bowl was no different. There were two 299 games posted and an 11 strikes in a row award given out. And, there were quite a few new bowlers making the trip to find out how much fun the SISBA tournament is. Snake River Bowl manager, Wally Studer, ran 50-50 pots among his leagues and was able to generate $200 to add to our prize fund. There was a run on the STORMŽ 300 Game Pot, too. Kevin Broderick of Harrisonville, Utah, posted a 279 game in his attempt, but was thwarted by new SISBA member Dave Sase, Ogden, Utah. Sase put together 11 strikes in an attempt to take the whole pot, but came up one pin short for a 299 game. But Broderick showed he could do that and came back in the two-game match games to start with a 299 game. However, Sase took the $50 as the pot only covers the five game qualifying rounds. Along with the 299 game, Sase also rolled out 11 strikes in a row during the step-ladder playoffs, rolling a 290 game against Fernandez to advance. Sase was not able to sustain the scoring to get to the championship, however, as Bill Hewlett of Meridian, Idaho rolled a super 246 to eliminate Sase who rolled a 228. Broderick, who qualified 6th for the two-game elimination tournament, roared into the first seed position after shooting games of 299 and 266 for a 565 against Carl Bond of Elko, Nevada. Bond, after the match, said he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do after the 299 game - keep bowling or concede to Broderick right there. Anyway, Broderick went on to be first seed in the step-ladder playoffs - and was determined to defend the first place championship he had won in Burley last year. This he did in convincing fashion when he bowled for the championship against Hewlett and posted a 247 over Hewlett's 221 game. And as an aside, Broderick also won the booby prize for the second month in a row during the bowling ball raffle drawing. In the tournament, there were no 1200s shot, but Sase came close with an 1196, five-game series. Bywater was close behind with 1186. There were nine 1100s and 16 of 1000 or better. Bob Bywater of Rupert, Idaho and Den Fernandez of West Valley City, Utah, were only one pin off the 300 game pot as they both rolled 278 games. The STORMŽ Bowling Ball Raffle gave away two bowling balls. The first winner was Darrell Callison (again), of Blackfoot, Idaho and the second ball went to Brianna Jensen of Burley, Idaho. We sincerely appreciate those who participate in this raffle as it allows us to pay the Super Seniors (age 60 or better) high game and series out of qualifying as well as add to the general prize fund when needed. Next month's tournament is the Annual Christmas Tournament at Tough Guy Lanes in Pocatello, Idaho. We hope for a great turnout as we have procured the finest of Idaho potatoes from the Louis Thiel farm, west of Idaho Falls, some of the finest potato growing soil in the world. These will be given out to all those who participate. We are working on accommodations for this tournament. The Econolodge-University has been sold, but we don't know if they will still give us SISBA rates. Be sure to check this site for any further updates.
Welcome! Welcome! New members Jamie Wehner and Dave Sase, both of Ogden, Utah; Craig Harrington of Herriman, Utah; Richard Schaefer of Hailey; Idaho, and welcome back to Bill McBath of Blackfoot, Idaho after an extended layoff. Our thanks to Wally Studer and his fantastic staff at Snake River Bowl for putting on a great tournament. And to the league members of Snake River Bowl for donating to our prize fund. SO!! Who's Winning the Pots?
