Another recordbreaker in Missoula!

There were 91 entries in the Missoula, Montana tournament - an all-time high in the history of SISBA. And hot on the heels of the opening day tournament record set in September. Missoula has a way of drawing, however, most likely due to the $1500 added money helped. Western Title & Escrow, Overhead Door of Missoula, Century Amusement, Inc., Jared Langley Roofing and Remodeling, Western Flooring, Ramada Inn Southgate, Paradise Casino, and Westside Lanes made the record high regular season payoff of $1000 first place a tradition - our thanks to these generous sponsors - and especially to Tom "super go-getter" Henry for his efforts in securing this sponsorship.

The scores at Westside Lanes were great, too. John Bertolina, of Henderson, Nevada, was one of six to make the 1100 mark, topping the field with a five-game series of 1184. Joining him was Randy Scharf of Jackson, Wyoming with an 1134, Don Winter of Kearns, Utah, with 1128, Larry Wasson of Idaho Falls, Idaho with 1104, Tom "go-getter" Henry of Missoula, Montana, with 1103, and newcomer Mark Hodges of Butte, Montana, with 1100 even.

The bottom of the top 18 scores was 1041, but as there were several repeat qualifiers, the score to qualify was 1038 - Randy Ypma of Manhattan, Montana, already has his shoes changed and his gear put away when he found out he had made the cut. But he certainly made the most of his good fortune by beating out opponent Don Winter in the two-game round and Randy Scharf in the one-game round, ending up a respectable fourth in the final standings.

John Bertolina held on the the first place position throughout the playoffs to win the tournament and the $1000 first place. Because we had 91 entries, the payoff for all who made the cut was quite generous. Steve Bordley of Roy, Utah, took home a second place check of $700. The Storm 300 Game Pot is still waiting for that big 300 game - Allen Nelson of Boise, Idaho, came close to tapping it in the first game of the second squad, but needed one more pin as his 278 game was short of the 279 game needed to take $50 out of the pot.

Hopefully, participation in the rest of the tournaments will be just as good - remember that $10 of every entry goes to the Grand Finals tournament prize fund. Between the September and October tournaments, so far that is $1720 added. For more information on the Missoula tournament, be sure to check out the standings on the October 2002 tournament results page.

The next tournament will be at Spare Time Family Bowling Center - formerly known as Fitzgerald’s - in Roy, Utah. There is $1000 added money to the prize fund so we hope to see everyone there.

We added several new members to the list this past tournament including: Mark Bennett and Dean Hagler of Missoula, Montana, Mark Hodges of Butte Montana, Richard Crawford of Great Falls, Montana, and Don Plattenberger of Newport, Washington. There were also several former SISBA members who made the tournament after a hiatus and we would like to welcome them back, too. Also, Fred Williams has changed his address. He is no longer a member of the Utah group as he has made his new home in Missoula, Montana.

We would also like to thank the staff and management of Westside Lanes for their wonderful hospitality.
