Season Opener FULL House

The opening tournament of the 2001-2002 season was almost filled to capacity. With a total possible 72 entries in two squads, there were 65 in the tournament sponsored by V-1 Oil Company (thanks to Gene Baxter) and Vic's Truck & Auto Repair (thanks to Vic Verhoff).

The second squad was full! And, there were quite a few new entries to start the new season, including: Mark and Jodie McDonald of Anaconda, Montana; Randy Ypma of Manhattan, Montana; Hal Illum of Belgrade, Montana; Pat Pethtel of Meridian, Idaho; Allen Nelson of Boise, Idaho; Kevin Grupa of Mountain Home, Idaho; Larry Wasson, Sylvia Jensen, Craig Rolph and Chuck Dobbe, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The bowling action was exciting also - especially in the playoffs. The one-game match between Max Shellabarger of Roy, Utah, and Harley Rish of Idaho Falls, Idaho, came down to the wire as Rish nosed Shellabarger out 227-221. But Allen Nelson gave us a thriller in his one-game match against John Bertolina of Henderson, Nevada, beating Bertolina out by a single pin: 227-226. The finals came down to Rish, verteran Ron Hendricks of Fort Hall, Idaho, and newcomers Randy Ypma (pronounced eepma) and Allen Nelson with Nelson coming out on top for the championship.

Over $200 was collected in the STORM, INC. bowling ball raffle. The ball was won by Chuck Dobbe, and the money was used to pay the high game and series out of the money to the super seniors. If we collect more, we pay high game out of the money to the regular seniors also.

The next tournament at Westside Lanes in Missoula, Montana, always promises to be a super tournament! With at least $1500 in added money, a $1000 first place payoff is guaranteed. Last year there were 74 entries, we expect there may be even more this year as the word about this tournament gets around.

And on Saturday, October 6, 2001, there will be a Doubles Tournament with a team age limit of 105 years or over. (The two members of the team's combined age cannot exceed 105). A First Place prize of $500 will be awarded based on 50 entries. High team series in each squad of at least eight teams will receive $100. You may bowl as often as you wish, but cash only once with the same partner in the final payoff.

There are four squads: 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. This tournament is open to all ABC and WIBC members - you need not be a member of the SISBA to participate. Brackets and sidepots will be available.

The entry fees are $50.00 (prize fund $40.00, Bowling $9.00, and $1.00 for expenses.)

And speaking of sponsors: The Rodeway Inn Southgate has offered the SISBA members traveling to Missoula an attractive room rate of $49.00 per night. The number for reservations is 1-800-247-2616. Mention you are with the SISBA tournament.

And please do not forget to thank our sponsors at the Missoula Tournament: Western Flooring Company, Jared Langley Enterprises, Inc., Western Title and Escrow, Overhead Door Company of Missoula, Inc., Century Amusement, Inc., and Rodeway Inn Southgate. We appreciate their contributions and especially appreciate Tom Henry who has taken the time to procure these sponsors.
